14 Alexander TriantafilidisAlexander Triantafilidis is Assistant Professor in Department of Genetics, Development and Molecular Biology School of Biology, Faculty of Sciences, A.U.Th. His research interests comprise of a number of topics all related to the application of population genetics in the conservation of animal species. These activities have been realised until now mostly with neutral molecular markers (mitochondrial DNA and microsatellites) but the use of technologies related to the functional genomics (SNPs and Next Generation Sequencing Data) is advancing. Specifically he is interested in the following topics:

 i) Linking genetic diversity and fish stock management: To identify population genetic structure in fish stocks and characterizes the related life history variation in order to assess potential local adaptations.

ii) The genetic impact of aquacultured populations on wild populations at the Mediterranean level, the most appropriate models to study the impact of domestication are gilthead seabream, and seabass which make up most of the Mediterranean Aquaculture.

iii) Food safety and traceability strengthening and extension of existing molecular (barcoding) databases for traceability purposes is needed (related to fish, dairy and swine species).

iv) The evolutionary history of Greek species.
